EXCLUSIVE: Jetsurfing! Like surfing, but with jets!

If you’re the sort that’s always tryin’ to get to the next level, this is it. You’re on a boogie board-sized “surf board” that actually has jets attached to the back that can allow you “surf” over water at 40 mph without waves. Let that soak in for a minute. You honestly have no idea what 40 mph feels like if your only experience with it is a car or speedboat. You’re literally holding on to friggin’ rockets until you get on top of them and then, vrooom! …you’ve reached that level.

If this doesn’t give you tingles, try another trip. Otherwise, sign up below. Pro-tip: although jetsurfing is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced, getting started feels a lot like getting started with regular surfing and wakeboarding combined. If you know/remember that feeling and have figured it out, you’ll figure this out, too. Jetsurf board, PFD, basic instruction, and tow support all provided.

DUE TO LIMITED AVAILABILITY, this trip can only accommodate 4 guests. However, book for you and a friend, and get 10% off your final order. Book for you and two friends and get 20% off. Book all 4 spots and get 30% off your final price! Discounts applied automatically at checkout.

5-day easy canoe camping around your own private island!

OK, so it really won’t be your own private island and we’re not actually renting out an island. But because of the timing, there’s no campground reservations required and no one else is camping because schools in session, families are working, and the only way to get to our campground is by paddling, which locals mostly stop doing in the fall for some reason. We take advantage and enjoy almost 100% privacy and ridiculous northeast colors.

Here’s what our week looks like:

  • It’s a full day’s roadtrip with a supply stop. Then a paddle out to our campground. Then camp set up, campfire, and chill.

  • Next day Tuesday, we explore islands, tributaries, creeks, everything via canoe, with some portaging involved, as far as we can go, using our campsite as our very own personal HQ.

  • Wednesday, we explore areas we missed and/or other activities like fishing, swimming, etc.

  • We head back Thursday.

The itinerary is fluid, meaning we get there when we get there, we get started when we get started, we wrap up when we wrap up. If you’re signing up to this trip, I hope you’re OK with that. This trip is a bit on the pricier side, but consider that you’re getting a roadtrip, fun times, good vibes, awesome activities, and a chance to unplug and relax on an (almost private) island in the middle of a gorgeous lake in heart of the Saranac region in upstate NY for a week. Not that pricy anymore, right?

Your fee includes a seat in the minivan, your canoe rental for 4 days, along with paddle, map, and personal flotation device. Your fee does not include food and drink, but remember, we’re making a supply stop and we’ll have a cooler. Your fee also does not include camping gear, but rental gear is also available at the rental shop for an extra fee. This trip is rated Beginner. Word. Outdoor rock climbing! Safe, all skill levels, super fun!

Look, there are about 10 climbing gyms in NYC with a bunch of other alternatives in our parks. And if you hook up with the right person, there’s even climbing in that person’s basement. Damn. You can’t go to a bar in this town without bumping into a climber who is either evasive about taking you out or way too eager. But OK, you’re intrigued enough to check it out. You’re pretty sure you’re not going balls to wall, climbing is life, cutting off all other human contacts who don’t climb. But you do want to try it casually. With other like-minded, normal people who actually own clothes that don’t emit white chalk dust. Well, this trip was created for you. No fuss, no stress, and no pressure to become the next taped-finger, loud-yelling, insta-famous climber (or climber girlfriend).

We’ve climbed with several outfitters in the Shawangunk Ridge (“The Gunks”) in all seasons and we finally found an awesome one with a great rep, modern gear, good insurance and solid guides - guides who all get paid living wages and are as much locals as you are in your ‘hood, so you know you’re getting great instruction, as well as the most time on the best routes for your skill level. It’s definitely not the cheapest, but there’s a reason cheap guides are cheap, and trust us, you don’t want to be on the failing end of a cheap climbing company. That said, grab your homies and book this trip as fast as you can because these guys are crazy busy all year round and the sooner we can reserve your spot, the better. Extremely professional guides and all the technical gear you’ll need - helmet, harness, rock shoes, rope, etc - included. You will need to bring your own lunch, snacks, and beverages. You will receive a detailed gear list via email when you sign up. This trip is rated Beginner/Training. Watch videos of how we climb together, then sign up.

Note: You have to get to New Paltz, NY on public transit. Don’t worry, there’s a bus every hour to and from, and it’s about an hour and change to get there. Instructions will be sent to you. From there, you will be picked up and taken to the park and returned to New Paltz after (this is an extra $25). There’s also a $20 park entrance fee, payable when you get there. And don’t forget, tipping your guide is greatly appreciated. You will be provided with all gear. Just bring your positive vibes. And your homies! The more friends, the less each pays!

Surfin' like a boss for beginners

We were like, Let’s go surfing!

After all, just south of Brooklyn, we’ve got some of the best surf on the east coast. (Bet you didn’t know that, huh?) And as it turns out, we’ve even got world renowned surf champs designing lessons for beginners, so we partnered with them to make it happen like only New Yorkers can!

All inclusive beginner surf camp with other beginners right hurr in NYC, baby! Board included. Just gotta get your butt over there, so plan ahead because A train on weekends is ridiculous. Word. Watch a video of our last surf trip, then sign up.

HEADS UP, FAM. Please note this activity is approximately 2.5 hours and takes place at Catalina Beach House in Long Island and there is a $20 valet parking fee and $35 beach access fee for the day (both payable when you get there). Sorry, Long Island got no chill with their beaches and wants to keep riff raff like you, out. But seriously though, have you ever tried to surf on a public beach between 9a and 5p on a hot weekend? The crowds are frustrating, like sitting in traffic for an hour. Catalina Beach Club owns a private beach on Long Beach and unlike free beaches like Far Rock (still our fave, too), there are no crowds waiting for sets in the water, except your small group. So, you can pay less for a rental or local beach bum to show you some things on a crowded beach and maybe get lucky, or you can pay a little more for personal attention, patience, and time to learn and catch a bunch of sets by yourself. So, yes, it’s exclusionary, but it’s also the best way to catch your first wave so next time, you can just a rent a board anytime you want. Take LIRR, a local bus from Far Rockaway, and/or just take a cab.

Beginner Sunset Kayak Tours In Calm, Protected South Oyster Bay

The paddlers of Long Island decided that their bays were too good not to paddle on, so they created the Blueway, an 18-mile paddling route traversing West Bay, Middle Bay, East Bay, and South Oyster Bay. On the section of the Blueway you’ll be doing, you might see any number of the 270 different species of birds or 49 different fish that are native to this area. The water gets to the 70s in the summer and is 3 to 30 feet at its deepest. Paddlers paradise. Word. But it’s tricky. Everything from conditions, to trip length and time, to navigation all require different skill levels.

So, if you’ve never been, you’ll definitely want to go with a guided tour and we got your tours right here! Kayak, paddle, flotation devices, and basic instruction are all included and provided to us by the operator of this trip. Clear up your Wednesday night and leave work a little earlier to watch a ridiculous sunset in the company of awesome people and epic views. #NoStress. Watch videos of how we paddle, then sign up.

Intro to Sailing

Sailing is awesome. Duh. Wind in your hair. Sun in your face. And plenty of filthy sailor humor and drinking afterwards. Word. But first, you need time, rich snobs with boats, and access to said boats to do it. So, we partnered with the only nonprofit in NYC that recruits and teaches inner city kids to teach them how to sail. They in-turn support their mission with sailing trips for boat-less sailors like us. Your fee goes towards supporting that mission. If you've never sailed, this will be a great opportunity to get your proverbial feet wet. If you have, this will be a refresher or a chance to teach the rest of us how to sail like a boss. You’ll be given some super basic instruction and will get to steer. Personal flotation device provided. This trip is rated Beginner*. Watch our videos to see what it’s like to sail with us. Plus, according to the American Sailing Association, July is Learn to Sail Month. Boom! You were meant to book this trip! Sign up.

Before you go, click the links below. Then go book it, fam!

*Our partner uses small J-24 boats which are very responsive to the choppy waters around NYC. You should probably avoid eating before this trip. Pro-tip: Focus on an object on land to ward off bad vibes. If that doesn’t work, don’t give up on sailing. Just try again on bigger cruising boats.

Epic mountain biking experience!

If you’ve ever seen a POV video of some dude biking on the very edge of some mountaintop or bombing down a flight of steps into a public plaza or flying through the air of a dirt bike course and thought to yourself, Holy Sh_t I Want To Do That!… then this experience is definitely for you. (Actually, even if you’re like, Nope. Nope. Aaand Nope… you’d still like this).

We’ve mountain biked as far away as Patagonia, Chile and as close by as Cunningham Park in Queens and nothing has been as awesome as Blue Mountain Reservation, right here in our backyard in Peekskill, NY. It’s a system of trails thoughtfully designed by pros for beginners (and other pros), with single track (one bike behind the other) and double track (bikes ride next to each other), with easy, all-downhill trails as well as disturbingly technical trails that will leave you feeling like you must be crazy to have paid to hike up a mountain with a bike, like WTF!

Outerthere.com has partnered with the actual local guides who came up with these courses to provide you everything you need to have crazy fun trying to ride bikes on mountains, from high-end, $5,000 bikes* like Kona, Pivot, and Yeti (these are the creme de la creme of mountain bikes and trust that there is a HUGE difference! You’ll never go back to Walmart bikes…), to guidance, gear, maps, and instruction**, to an epic course that you’ll love your first time or twentieth.

Mountain biking is a ridiculous whole body workout so f_ck off, stationary bike. You ready? Yeah, you ready. Book your experience*** now. Word. This activity is rated Beginner to Advance. Watch videos of how we roll together then sign up.

Kayak to a F_ckin' Waterfall on the Hudson!

Sit down fam, 'cause you're 'bout to get schooled. You live in NY and enjoy all it has to offer. Except probably the Hudson River. The "river that flows two ways" isn't just Manhattan's river, it's NY's river, stretching 315 miles from the Adirondacks all the way down to the Atlantic Ocean. And despite how badly NY'ers have screwed it up over the centuries, we're also spending billions of dollars to clean it back up, spurring the creation of non-profits with names like Riverkeepers, Clearwaters, and Scenics who monitor everything that goes into it. Thanks to them, corporations, and other community groups, working collaborative with local, state and federal governments have been working since the 90s to continue to keep it clean so we can enjoy it by sailing, fishing, diving, and yes, paddling it. You can pretty much paddle anywhere on the Hudson. But if you don't own your own gear, or don't know the rules of the river, (or how to paddle... or swim...) it's best to go with an experienced guide.

So, now that you know that, know this: there's a secret waterfall that you can only get to by paddling under a railroad track right off of the Hudson River, through a protected marshland, and into a hidden creek. And when you get there, you can swim in a cool, refreshing pool, followed by a healthy lunch. And that’s how we roll… err, paddle. Word. Kayak, paddle, flotation devices, guide, instruction, and lunch are included. This activity is rated Beginner. Watch videos of how we 'yak, then sign up.
