Look, there are about 10 climbing gyms in NYC with a bunch of other alternatives in our parks. And if you hook up with the right person, there’s even climbing in that person’s basement. Damn. You can’t go to a bar in this town without bumping into a climber who is either evasive about taking you out or way too eager. But OK, you’re intrigued enough to check it out. You’re pretty sure you’re not going balls to wall, climbing is life, cutting off all other human contacts who don’t climb. But you do want to try it casually. With other like-minded, normal people who actually own clothes that don’t emit white chalk dust. Well, this trip was created for you. No fuss, no stress, and no pressure to become the next taped-finger, loud-yelling, insta-famous climber (or climber girlfriend).
We’ve climbed with several outfitters in the Shawangunk Ridge (“The Gunks”) in all seasons and we finally found an awesome one with a great rep, modern gear, good insurance and solid guides - guides who all get paid living wages and are as much locals as you are in your ‘hood, so you know you’re getting great instruction, as well as the most time on the best routes for your skill level. It’s definitely not the cheapest, but there’s a reason cheap guides are cheap, and trust us, you don’t want to be on the failing end of a cheap climbing company. That said, grab your homies and book this trip as fast as you can because these guys are crazy busy all year round and the sooner we can reserve your spot, the better. Extremely professional guides and all the technical gear you’ll need - helmet, harness, rock shoes, rope, etc - included. You will need to bring your own lunch, snacks, and beverages. You will receive a detailed gear list via email when you sign up. This trip is rated Beginner/Training. Watch videos of how we climb together, then sign up.
Note: You have to get to New Paltz, NY on public transit. Don’t worry, there’s a bus every hour to and from, and it’s about an hour and change to get there. Instructions will be sent to you. From there, you will be picked up and taken to the park and returned to New Paltz after (this is an extra $25). There’s also a $20 park entrance fee, payable when you get there. And don’t forget, tipping your guide is greatly appreciated. You will be provided with all gear. Just bring your positive vibes. And your homies! The more friends, the less each pays!

UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, THIS TRIP IS NOT OPERATED BY OUTERTHERE ADVENTURES, LLC (“OUTERTHERE”). WE WORK WITH LOCAL SUPPLIERS TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE BEST EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE.
However, the best experience isn’t always with a group of strangers. Sometimes, you want to go with your squad. But squad is busy. Or flaky. Or just isn’t into what you’re into. That’s where Outerthere comes in.
Booking with Outerthere.com means that you’re likely to go with people you actually want to hang out with, like other Outerthere fam. OUTERTHERE FAM ARE AWESOME! If you’ve been watching the videos on this site, you see we’re down for anything and always have a great time. Outerthere videos let’s you see what you’re getting into - and with what sorta people - before you book your trip.
However, to make sure everyone gets to go on the same trip, we group your reservation together with everyone else’s who booked that same trip on Outerthere.com (which is why you’ll see limited dates for particular activities on our calendar). That (almost) assures that you’ll have a great time because you’ll be going with people just as awesome as you.
Trips sell out fast and we’re not the only ones going, so the sooner you book the more likely you’re able to reserve your spot before it sells out.
After your booking, you will receive a welcome email from Outerthere with all the information details for you to have an awesome adventure!
