We're hiking from Tuxedo to Sloatsburg with an awesome picnic at Sebago Lake!
This hike is just under 10 miles, but before you say your kid can't handle that, yes, your kid can handle it. Once we get to Tuxedo, there's a 10 minute walk to the trailhead. From the trailhead, it's a 20 minute zig-zaggy hike up to the top of Tuxedo Ridge. You'll sweat, but that's the toughest part of the entire day. After that, it's a scrambly hike to Lake Sebago, where we'll stop for about an hour for a nice leisurely lunch. Afterwards, we hike along a flowing creek to the the Harriman State Park Visitors Center at Sloatsburg, with a couple of stops along the way to soak our feet in the creek. The visitor center is a good place to call for a taxi if you're done OR we can continue to walk to the end of the trail at Sloatsburg. At the end point, it's a 15 minute walk back to the train station. Oh and the best part, we'll have an honest-to-goodness "tree doctor", Dr. Chris Borman, Doctor of Plant Health (University of Nebraska) and Senior Forester at Manhattan Forestry at NYC Parks who works to keep NYC trees healthy and happy. He'll be answering most of the nature questions you'll have about the foliage we'll encounter. I asked him to come because why not get your learn on while you hike. Word. It's a complete family day that even you grown ups will like.
